Like other recyclable metals, we’re happy to take titanium materials here in Garland at Encore Recyclers. However, there’s a lot people don’t know about this metal. Here’s some important (and even fun) information for all you scrappers out there.
The Uses of Titanium
Titanium is an amazing metal for several reasons, especially its durability, low weight, and extremely high melting point. It’s used in a variety of both everyday and highly specialized tools and pieces of equipment, including things like
- Frames for eyeglasses
- Bicycle frames and components
- Airplane engines
- Replacement hips
- Ballistic armor
- Watches and jewelry
- Motorcycles and automotive parts
As you can see from the wide variety of uses it’s put to, titanium is quite versatile. This can also make it a valuable metal, especially if it’s clean and otherwise in good condition. It can be easy for scrappers to find, too!
How Titanium is Classified
Titanium is a non-ferrous metal, meaning it does not contain iron. Titanium is its own element, as you may remember from your high school chemistry class.
Beyond this, there is a complex classification system for titanium that breaks it down into several grades based on what it was used for, its purity, and other attributes.
Because of this classification system, different types of titanium might net you different amounts of money when you bring it in for scrapping. That being said, it’s always worth something—and it’s always a huge benefit to the environment and to the industries powered by titanium when you recycle.
When you bring titanium into the scrap yard, separate it from other metals—especially ferrous metals like iron and steel. If you’re really dedicated, you can even separate different types of titanium from each other if they’re stamped or otherwise marked.
Like all metals, it’s important to keep titanium clean for scrapping. Clean metal is always worth more than dirty metal! The effort you put into keeping your scrap materials free of dirt, dust, and debris will pay off every single time.
If you own or work for a business that uses titanium frequently, you can even call Encore to learn about our recyclable material pickup program. This program saves you time, helps protect the environment, and earns your business a little extra cash—all at no cost to you!
The Benefits of Recycling Titanium
Titanium is one of the most beneficial metals to recycle not only because of the variety of cool stuff it’s used for, but because it can be reused again and again with virtually no loss of quality.
Many industries that manufacture titanium products take advantage of recycled titanium for its environmental and economic benefits, and everyone from business to government to regular people is enthusiastic about keeping recycled titanium widely available
Like many other metals, it is cheaper and less environmentally dangerous to recycle titanium components into new materials than it is to mine fresh titanium from the earth. And because titanium can be reused almost infinitely, that benefit grows every time a titanium product is recycled.
If you have specific questions about recycling titanium, be sure to give us a call or stop by our facility. We’re happy to accept titanium from customers new and old.
